SC to review 26th Constitutional Amendment petitions

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will hear multiple petitions challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment on October 7. The case has been fixed before an eight-member larger bench headed by Justice Amin Uddin, with proceedings scheduled for 11:30 am.

The bench also includes Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Ayesha Malik, Hassan Rizvi, Mussarat Hilali, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Shahid Bilal.

The amendment, signed into law by President Asif Ali Zardari on the advice of then-Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, limits the Chief Justice’s tenure to three years. A 12-member parliamentary committee will nominate the Chief Justice from the three most senior judges.
