PESHAWAR: In a bold move to accelerate flood relief, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a salary deduction initiative from public, semi-government, and private employees to support families devastated by the recent monsoon floods.
According to the Finance Department’s official notification, Grade 17 and above officers will contribute two days’ basic salary, while employees in Grades 1 to 16 will donate one day’s pay starting from the August 2025 payroll.
The salary deduction in KP is expected to generate emergency funds for temporary shelter, food, medical aid, and rehabilitation services for displaced families.
During a provincial cabinet meeting, officials emphasized the urgent need to mobilize resources after flash floods destroyed infrastructure in districts including Battagram, Bajaur, and Mansehra. The devastating rains claimed over 368 lives, injured 182 people, and damaged 1,300 homes along with 100 schools.
This initiative complements the federal government’s efforts, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet pledged one month’s salary in solidarity with the people of KP. Relief operations are being coordinated with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), which has dispatched medical teams, food, and tents to the worst-hit areas.
The KP Finance Department stated that this collective sacrifice is a powerful demonstration of unity, ensuring that affected families receive immediate assistance and faster rehabilitation.
