Iran Guards foil Mossad spy network, prevent major attacks
TEHRAN: Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced on Saturday that they had carried out a major Mossad spy bust, arresting eight individuals accused of attempting to transmit sensitive military information to Israel’s intelligence agency.
According to state media, the Iran Guards arrest followed allegations that the suspects had been passing on coordinates of strategic sites and details about senior commanders during Israel’s June airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Those strikes claimed the lives of high-ranking officials and civilians, marking one of the gravest blows to Iran since the 1980s war with Iraq.
The Guards reported that the suspects had received specialized training from Mossad operatives via online platforms. Authorities added that before they could execute their plans, the group was detained in northeastern Iran, where security forces also seized launchers, explosives, bombs, and booby traps.
Iran retaliated fiercely after Israel’s assault, firing missile barrages at Israeli military targets, infrastructure, and cities. The conflict escalated further when the United States joined on June 22, striking Iranian nuclear facilities.
Earlier this month, Iranian police said more than 21,000 suspects were detained during the 12-day Iran-Israel war, though officials did not clarify their alleged activities. The wave of arrests was accompanied by an increased street presence of security forces until a US-brokered ceasefire ended hostilities.
In recent months, Iran has executed at least eight individuals on espionage charges, including nuclear scientist Rouzbeh Vadi, who was hanged on August 9 for passing intelligence to Israel about another scientist killed in Israeli airstrikes.
This Iran Guards arrest of eight suspected operatives marks another significant Mossad spy bust, underlining Tehran’s determination to counter foreign intelligence efforts amid ongoing regional tensions.
