Karachi Rain Alert as PMD warns of heavy downpours, urban flooding, and rising Indus levels this week.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a Karachi Rain Alert, forecasting continuous heavy showers across the city and several parts of Sindh until September 10. Early Monday rains brought pleasant weather, but authorities warn that urban flooding and waterlogging may intensify in low-lying areas.
PMD officials said the deep depression over Tharparkar is likely to weaken slightly but will continue bringing torrential rains to Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, and other districts. Strong gusty winds may also damage weak structures, electric poles, and billboards.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah confirmed that the Indus River peak flood, exceeding 800,000 cusecs, is expected at Guddu Barrage on September 9. Evacuations of vulnerable riverine communities have been accelerated under direct supervision of provincial ministers.
Authorities remain on high alert as the Karachi Rain Alert underscores risks of flash floods in Dadu and rising water levels at Hub Dam. Dawnnews
