Quiboloy Extradition Request nears as US sends formal note
MANILA – A formal Quiboloy extradition request from the United States is expected soon, Philippine Ambassador to Washington Jose Manuel Romualdez announced on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Manila Strategy Forum, Romualdez said the request will be issued through a diplomatic note from the US State Department to the Philippine DFA.
The decision to prioritize the extradition lies with Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, as Quiboloy also faces pending cases in the Philippines.
The request stems from a 2021 US indictment in California, charging the religious leader with sex trafficking of minors, fraud, and bulk cash smuggling.
Under the 1994 US-Philippines extradition treaty, suspects may be temporarily surrendered for trial abroad and later returned after proceedings conclude.
