Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) stalwart Rana Sanaullah emerged victorious in the Senate by-election for a general seat from Punjab. The contest, held on September 9, 2025, was prompted by the disqualification of PTI’s Ejaz Chaudhry over his conviction in the May 9 unrest cases. At the Punjab Assembly polling station held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., a total of 251 ballots were cast. Rana Sanaullah, who needed 181 votes to win, easily surpassed the threshold with 250 votes; only one ballot was rejected. The PTI’s candidate, Salma Ejaz, received no votes following a boycott by the opposition.
