After heavy rains and flooding forced a temporary closure, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur has reopened for Sikh pilgrims, just ahead of Baba Guru Nanak’s death anniversary.
Following weeks of closure due to heavy rains and flooding, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur has reopened to welcome Sikh pilgrims. The shrine, which had been waterlogged, underwent extensive cleaning and repairs before being declared fit for visitors again.
Authorities announced that, for now, only families will be allowed entry to avoid overcrowding and ensure proper management.
However, Indian Sikh pilgrims remain unable to attend, as New Delhi has not lifted its ban on travel through the Kartarpur Corridor. This has sparked disappointment among the global Sikh community, particularly with the upcoming death anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak on September 22, which traditionally draws thousands of devotees.
Pakistani Sikh pilgrims, along with visitors from the UK, US, and Canada, are expected to participate. Officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Evacuee Trust Property Board, and the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee will also brief the media on preparations for the event
