Mustafa Kamal publicly vaccinates daughter to counter HPV rumours, stressing vaccine safety and importance of cancer prevention in Pakistan
Karachi — HPV Rumours In a strong move against misinformation, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal publicly vaccinated his daughter against cervical cancer to dispel rumours about the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
The symbolic step came during a press conference in Karachi, where Kamal addressed growing concerns and “baseless propaganda” surrounding the vaccine. “It’s time to act, not just speak. I wanted to demonstrate that the HPV vaccine is safe and necessary for our daughters,” he declared.
Kamal emphasized that he rarely involves his family in political or public matters, but the severity of the HPV Rumours demanded action. “My daughter Rija is important to me, but every daughter in Pakistan deserves the same protection,” he added, calling the vaccination a matter of faith and public duty.
Highlighting gaps in Pakistan’s healthcare system, the minister said treatment alone is not enough to save lives. “Prevention is the key. Vaccination is our first line of defence against diseases like cancer,” he stated. Kamal also revealed that more vaccines will be introduced soon as part of the government’s broader health initiative.
The move has been widely viewed as an attempt to build trust in public health campaigns, particularly against the backdrop of cancer’s devastating toll on families. Kamal urged citizens to embrace vaccination as the most effective strategy for protecting future generations.
