The Government of Pakistan has teamed up with Huawei to launch a large-scale program aimed at enhancing IT skills in Pakistan, with a target of training 300,000 young people.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif witnessed the agreement signing with Huawei, IT Skills Pakistan as part of efforts to bridge the gap between education and industry requirements. The initiative aligns with the newly approved National AI Policy, which envisions Pakistan as a technology-driven economy.

Through Huawei’s 100 ICT academies and 30 ICT labs across universities, students and professionals can now access 18 self-paced courses, ranging from AI and cloud technologies to advanced networking. Certifications will be provided at associate, professional, and expert levels.

Officials estimate that IT Skills Pakistan if one million youth can earn $10,000 annually through IT and freelancing, the economic impact will be immense. Already, 70,000 students have registered, while the DigiSkills platform aims to draw 10% of its 700,000 users to this program.

Despite its promise, the program faces challenges, such as the need for more hands-on training for certain technical fields. Still, both the government and Huawei are optimistic about achieving transformative results in Pakistan’s IT landscape.
