KARACHI: Popular Pakistani singer Hasan Raheem says his wedding turned into a “crash course on Gilgit” for Pakistan and beyond, after his spontaneous dance moves to Gilgit-Baltistan’s cultural beats went viral online.
Held last month, Hasan Raheem’s wedding the celebration quickly broke the internet as videos of Hasan dancing with friends and family lit up Instagram, turning the nuptials into a nationwide cultural moment.
In an interview with BBC Asian Network’s Haroon Rashid, Hasan shared how his wedding unexpectedly became a viral showcase of Gilgit’s traditions. “I would just stand up every five minutes and dance — it was pure joy,” he laughed.
The singer revealed his family never planned to document the festivities, but his cousins recorded and shared clips that spread like wildfire. “Our wedding gave a crash course on Gilgit to all of Pakistan and the world,” Hasan said proudly.
He also credited his mother for encouraging him to embrace his heritage: “I love my mum for that. She reminded me to wear my culture with pride.”
