ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has clarified that the recently signed Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence agreement is not targeted against any country but reflects the two nations’ deep-rooted partnership and mutual trust.
Speaking to UK-based Pakistani journalists in London, the premier said the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence agreement is built upon decades of “sincerity and trust” and has now been formalized through institutional arrangements.
The agreement ensures that an attack on one will be treated as an attack on both, with a joint response to any aggression,” the Prime Minister emphasized, calling it a historic step in bilateral relations.
Highlighting Pakistan’s strong military history, PM Shehbaz recalled significant victories against India and said the new accord symbolizes strategic unity between Islamabad and Riyadh.
The Prime Minister also described his meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump as “highly productive,” stressing that Pakistan is moving towards greater economic cooperation while maintaining macroeconomic stability despite recent flood-related challenges.
He reaffirmed that political and military leadership remain “on the same page,” citing his regular consultations with Army Chief General Asim Munir on critical national and foreign policy matters.
Reiterating Pakistan’s stance against terrorism, Shehbaz paid tribute to the sacrifices of security forces, calling them “eternal in the nation’s memory.” He further emphasized that Pakistan continues to raise its voice for Kashmiris and Palestinians at the United Nations.
The Prime Minister concluded that the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence agreement opens a new chapter of collaboration, focusing on security, economic growth, investment, agriculture, IT, and minerals.
