“7 Urgent Punjab Flood Alert Warnings: Torrential Monsoon & India’s Release (Hope Meets Danger)”

Punjab Flood Alert — The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has sounded a strong warning over the possibility of severe flooding in several major rivers, as the province faces the combined threats of relentless monsoon rains and a potential surge of water released from Indian reservoirs (geo.tv).

A PDMA spokesperson confirmed that authorities are closely monitoring unusually high water storage levels in key Indian dams—Bhakra at 61%, Pong at 76%, and Thein at 64%. These figures suggest that excess water could soon be drained downstream into the Sutlej River, possibly within the next 48 hours. This, combined with seasonal rainfall, could significantly raise flood risks for communities situated along vulnerable riverbanks (geo.tv).

The province is already bracing for its seventh wave of monsoon showers, with weather forecasts predicting heavy downpours over the coming days. River levels—especially in the Chenab—are expected to climb further, reaching medium to high-risk categories. This could lead to flooding not only in rural floodplains but also in low-lying urban zones if drainage systems are overwhelmed (geo.tv).

In preparation, PDMA has activated round-the-clock emergency monitoring. Commissioners, deputy commissioners, and relevant local government departments have been directed to remain on high alert, ensure the readiness of rescue teams, pre-position relief supplies, and keep evacuation plans updated. Authorities are also urging residents in at-risk areas to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary river crossings, and follow official safety advisories.

Officials emphasized that timely coordination between federal and provincial agencies will be critical in preventing loss of life and minimizing damage to property and agriculture. “The situation is dynamic,” a PDMA representative stated, “but with early warnings and community cooperation, we can reduce the impact of potential flooding.”
