PCB Files Protest Over Fakhar Zaman Controversy
In a dramatic escalation of the Fakhar Zaman Controversy, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally lodged a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against TV umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge. The complaint follows the disputed dismissal of Fakhar Zaman during Pakistan’s high-stakes Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash with India in Dubai.
Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha also submitted a negative report to the ICC, questioning the legality of the decision and suggesting the ball appeared to bounce before being caught. He noted that Fakhar’s rapid start could have lifted Pakistan’s total to around 190 runs had he stayed at the crease.
Fakhar Zaman, who had raced to 15 off just nine balls, was adjudged caught behind in the third over off Hardik Pandya. Despite a lengthy third-umpire review, the decision went against Pakistan, sparking disbelief among players, commentators, and fans alike.
The incident drew criticism from former cricketers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, while social media erupted over the catch’s legitimacy. Even Indian journalist Rahul Rawat remarked it appeared the ball touched the ground before reaching wicketkeeper Sanju Samson .Fakhar Zaman Controversy
This high-profile dispute has reignited concerns about TV umpiring standards in international cricket, placing additional scrutiny on ICC’s review processes during marquee events like the Asia Cup.
