Gaza Flotilla denies disruption, Tunisia rejects drone strike reports

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) for Gaza reported that one of its main vessels was allegedly struck by a drone while docked at Sidi Bou Said port in Tunisia. Despite the fire that damaged the main deck and storage area, all six passengers and crew members were declared safe.

However, Tunisia’s Interior Ministry dismissed the claims, stating the reports of a drone strike had “no basis in truth,” and clarified that the fire started from inside the vessel itself.

The incident occurred as the flotilla—an international initiative of civilian boats backed by delegates from 44 countries, including Greta Thunberg—attempted to break Israel’s long-standing naval blockade on Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid.

Video footage released by GSF showed what they described as a luminous flying object hitting the vessel, followed by smoke. Soon after, crowds gathered outside the port waving Palestinian flags and chanting “Free Palestine.”

The GSF vowed to continue its mission despite the attack: “Acts of aggression will not deter us. Our peaceful mission to break the siege on Gaza Flotilla continues with determination and resolve.”

Meanwhile, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, present at the port, suggested Israel may have been behind the attack, calling it a possible violation of Tunisian sovereignty. Israel has not commented on the matter.

The flotilla said an official investigation is underway, with results expected soon. Gaza Flotilla
