“5 Shocking Reasons Why ‘Independence-Day’ Protest Timing Sparks Unity (…But Ignites Political Friction)”

Independence-Day — Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has appealed to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership to reschedule its planned nationwide protest, arguing that significant national days should unite the country rather than stir political conflict (thenews.com.pk).

Addressing the issue on Geo News’s Naya Pakistan programme with Shahzad Iqbal, Sanaullah asserted that the day ought to be a celebration of national solidarity—not a platform for political dissent. He stressed that this occasion is a time for unity, reflection, and honoring national heroes (thenews.com.pk).

He expressed support for PTI’s democratic right to protest but emphasized that choosing August 14 is inappropriate. As alternatives, he suggested the party consider August 13, 15, or 16 for their demonstration (thenews.com.pk).

His comments followed PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan’s call on August 6—via X—for supporters to “take to the streets in full force” in response to what PTI labeled ongoing oppression. This came on the heels of PTI’s unsuccessful protest attempt on August 5 (thenews.com.pk).

Sanaullah also remarked on PTI’s previous August 5 protest—flagged as the “Day of Exploitation” to protest India’s revocation of occupied Kashmir’s autonomy—highlighting that although a major movement was announced close to Independence-Day, it ultimately yielded little impact (thenews.com.pk).
