ISLAMABAD: India has once again released water into the Sutlej River, intensifying fears of another dangerous flood wave across Punjab and Sindh, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

Authorities in India have issued a high flood alert downstream of Harike and Ferozepur barrages. The Indian High Commission officially notified Islamabad about the alert, after which Pakistan’s Ministry of Water Resources informed all provincial chief secretaries and relevant departments to prepare for possible emergencies.

India Releases Water Just a day earlier, warnings had also been issued regarding India’s release of water into the Sutlej River. The current flood stream, after wreaking havoc in central Punjab, is now moving through southern Punjab and is expected to advance toward Sindh.

According to official updates:

  • Trimmu Barrage: inflow and outflow recorded at 279,908 cusecs.
  • Punjnad Headworks: inflow and outflow at 475,129 cusecs.
  • Guddu Barrage: inflow surged to 502,844 cusecs, with outflow at 492,443 cusecs.
  • Sukkur Barrage: inflow reached 400,405 cusecs, outflow at 382,355 cusecs.
  • Kotri Barrage: inflow at 253,145 cusecs, outflow at 251,745 cusecs.

India Releases Water Officials caution that the rising water levels may put immense pressure on downstream barrages, and provincial authorities have been urged to stay on high alert to minimize damage.
