Karachi traffic police warn citizens about fake fine payment messages

KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police has issued an urgent alert warning citizens about fake fine payment messages circulating on mobile phones and social media.

Officials clarified that these messages are fraudulent, misleading, and have no link to the Karachi Traffic Police or any government institution. Citizens were advised to ignore such SMS and avoid sharing personal details.

Earlier this month, the traffic police launched the second phase of its awareness campaign in preparation for the citywide e-challan system. The upcoming system will issue automated traffic fines based on photo and video evidence of violations.

As part of this initiative, Karachi’s DIG Traffic met with outdoor advertising companies. Over 100 key locations across the city will soon display traffic awareness messages on signboards, streamers, and digital media. Educational videos and visuals are also being shared to help residents better understand road rules.

The new faceless e-challan system aims to improve road discipline. Traffic violations will be digitally recorded, and challans will be delivered directly to the violator’s home. Citizens will also be able to check challan details via the official traffic police mobile app.

The Karachi Traffic Police has strongly urged citizens to follow road safety rules and remain cautious of fake challan payment scams.
