Karachi: Torrential rainfall in Karachi has triggered severe flooding from the Lyari River, inundating several low-lying residential areas and forcing mass evacuations.

According to rescue officials, floodwaters entered houses in Gulshan-e-Iqbal UC-1 Goharabad, Nishtar Basti, and Essa Nagri, while at Sohrab Goth’s Lassi Para, residential units were also submerged. Rescue teams confirmed that 15 children, four women, and one elderly man have been safely evacuated, with relief operations still underway.

Meanwhile, water from the Thado River has reached Dar Muhammad Goth, prompting authorities to shift residents to safer zones to minimize risk.

Karachi mayor denies flooding in Saadi Town, calls reports ‘false’

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, however, rejected social media claims of flooding in Saadi Town, calling such reports “false.” He confirmed that while some areas near Lyari and Malir rivers are experiencing heavy water flow, major neighborhoods remain unaffected GEO NEWS.

Surjani Town recorded 116 millimeters of rainfall, and although water is being released from Thaddo Dam, officials clarified that it is not threatening the M-9 Motorway or Shahrah-e-Faisal.
