Pakistan Airspace Ban on Indian Airlines Extended till Oct 23

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has extended the Pakistan Airspace Ban on Indian Airlines until October 23, marking a total of 210 days of restricted entry for Indian-registered commercial, military and private aircraft.

According to the Pakistan Airports Authority’s new NOTAM, the restriction — first imposed on April 24 after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty — now covers all Indian commercial airlines, India-registered aircraft, and military flights.

The move came in response to heightened tensions following attacks in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. India had already closed its airspace to Pakistani airlines on April 30.

Officials said the latest extension adds another month to the airspace ban, which has been periodically renewed since spring.

While Indian airlines have incurred heavy losses, Pakistan’s aviation industry reports minimal impact. The country has imposed similar restrictions in past crises, including during the 1999 Kargil conflict and the 2019 Pulwama standoff.
