Record Rs3.7 Billion Returned to Victims of Massive Ponzi Scheme—August-21-2025
In a landmark restitution, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has begun repaying investors victimized by one of Pakistan’s largest Ponzi schemes. The Ponzi scheme ensnared thousands promising unrealistic 7 percent monthly returns. This massive payout was unveiled on August 21, 2025, at a cheque distribution event held at NAB’s Islamabad headquarters, led by Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed. During the ceremony, out of 17,500 victims, 10,000 have already received full compensation, while the remaining 7,500 investors are receiving 40 percent of their dues in this first phase. The rest will be paid once the seized assets are liquidated over the next six months. Geo TV
The NAB Rawalpindi office traced the scam’s orchestrators—led by Saif-ur-Rehman—and seized bank accounts, properties, and other assets, verifying many claims via digital records before arranging the payments. Geo TV
Chairman Nazir Ahmed reiterated NAB’s dedication to public protection, urging citizens to verify schemes before investing to avoid falling prey to fraudulent operations. He praised the investigative team’s efforts and announced the distribution of Umrah packages as tokens of appreciation for their hard work. The bureau also confirmed that future payouts will be made directly into victims’ bank accounts, eliminating the need for them to visit NAB offices. Geo TV
Many recipients expressed relief and gratitude, stating they had lost hope of recovering any of their savings until the bureau’s intervention. NAB emphasized that this repayment effort underscores its mission to recover looted public resources and restore people’s faith in accountability mechanisms. Geo TV
