Sukkur Barrage Floods at peak as CM ramps up rescue and farmer relief measures.
KARACHI — With the grace of God, the water level is easing at Guddu Barrage but the Sukkur Barrage Floods remain at their peak, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced Wednesday. He confirmed the floodwater is moving downstream toward Kotri, with personnel deployed across districts to protect lives and property.
The CM said saving lives remains top priority as evacuations continue in affected katcha areas. “We had planned ahead of the floods and are achieving all targets under our emergency plan,” he stated.
He praised Bilawal Bhutto’s vision for an agricultural emergency, noting that the prime minister promptly imposed it. Shah urged a review of agriculture tax to ease farmers’ burden and said a new relief package will be announced next week despite likely shortfalls in FBR collections.arynews
The chief minister also warned of a looming crisis if the agricultural emergency isn’t fully enforced, forecasting possible wheat shortages in December and January. “Wheat production has already dropped by 20 percent this season,” he said, underscoring urgent action amid the Sukkur Barrage Floods.
