UK Visa Policy: Stronger Border Control with Five Eyes Alliance
The UK is considering suspending visas for citizens of countries that refuse to take back failed asylum seekers, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced at a Five Eyes meeting in London. Joined by officials from the US, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, Mahmood emphasized that securing UK borders is her “top priority.” She stressed that nations must “play by the rules” or face coordinated visa restrictions.
The talks focused on illegal migration, border security, and international cooperation, with allies pledging united action against people smugglers. This year, more than 30,000 migrants have crossed the Channel, marking a 37% rise from last year. Mahmood said such numbers are “utterly unacceptable,” highlighting the need for stronger global collaboration.
